Valley of Dreams

It is easy to find an author among a stack of books that we like and their works become the only ones filling our shelves for a while. Choosing to open a book by another author usually comes through the encouragement of a friend.

Such is the case for me. Although an avid reader, my list of favorite authors is small. It’s been in the past couple years that I’ve been introduced to authors I’ve yet to become familiar with. One such author is Lauraine Snelling. Her name is well known on the bookstore shelves. I’ve seen her work, glanced at the titles, and moved along down the alphabet to the books authored by someone I’ve been collecting.

Recently, Bethany House offered one of Lauraine’s newest releases to review. When I opened the package and began to read Valley of Dreams it was quickly apparent that I would have to make room for another author on my shelf.

The book begins with Cassie Lockwood, sharp-shooter and trick rider with a wild west show, learns that the show is closing and she will be traveling across the country to find the valley her father had told her about. Never having to cook or hunt, she finds that she must learn an entire new way of living while traveling with an old Indian man, an injured Indian woman, another man, and cattle.

As each page is turned, the veil thins, allowing clearer view into Cassie’s life, and the lives of the other characters involved in this journey. By the end, anticipation has built to see Cassie reach her destination and begin her new life. As the book closes, though, we find ourselves being set up for the next in the Wild West Wind series of books; and I can honestly say that I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Visit Lauraine's website, Christian Book Distributors, Amazon, or Bethany House for ordering information.

Note: When Bethany House sent me this complimentary copy of Valley of Dreams, it was understood that I would provide my honest opinion.
