Life is funny sometimes, and when it isn't we can't stop the flow of our tears. Or maybe we can by sheer determination and a crusting of our heart to keep the pain from marring our countenance by a frown.
It is important, however, to guard our hearts against calcification, or paralysis that could become the norm by faithfully "keeping our chin up". Sometimes vulnerability is the answer to our trauma. Perhaps God is waiting to enfold us into the crook of His arms --either through supernatural means or physical bodies wrapping their arms around us and sheltering us from the harsh winds would so readily rip through our souls like Sandy did to the east coast.
I once read that the most tragic part of death is a life not lived. Could it be that hardening my heart against the arctic weather or scorching rays is deciding to exit "life" and refuse to find God in the midst? Is it possible that living in fear, holding onto resentment, complaining, or forgetting to love large and forgive often forfeit my grasp on the abundant life Jesus promised?
If so, I need to make a change.
